Kirby Hall is an Elizabethancountry house, located near Gretton, Northamptonshire, England, very close to Priors Hall in Corby. It is one of the great Elizabethan houses of England, and was built for Sir Humphrey Stafford of Blatherwick, with building work beginning in 1570. In 1575 the property was purchased by Sir Christopher Hatton of Holdenby,[1] Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I. The building and gardens are now owned by the Earl of Winchilsea and are managed by English Heritage.
Kirby Hall and its surrounding gardens are wonderful, from the architecture to the beautifully kept lawns it’s a fabulous place to spend the day. The Hall is steeped in history, and you can feel it echoing around you.
We have been looking forward to this trip and it did not disappoint. The weather was glorious, the company was fun, and the food was scrumptious. Sitting in an Elizabethan Garden on a beautiful summer’s day, interacting with the peacocks is a top rate way to spend a day.
We are looking forward to further visits to Kirby Hall and many other places of interest throughout the summer, fingers crossed for more beautiful weather.
