It’s a bit of a cliché that when you hit middle age you suddenly prefer a trip round a garden centre to a trip to the pub. I’m not sure that this is strictly true, we do still very much enjoy our trips to the pub, but I will concede that we do all enjoy a stroll around the local garden centre.
There is something very calming about being surrounded by greenery, the sound of the hoses and the water features. We love to look around and make plans for our own garden, picking out colour schemes and looking at garden ornaments.
We enjoy a look around the produce section, discovering new flavours of jam and artisan cakes. They give us ideas for our baking club.
The best part of the trip is the café, it’s light and airy and always smells divine. We save the visit to the café until the end of our trip, and we gather around a table, laden with our purchases, to chat about what we have seen and enjoy a well-earned cup of tea and a slice of cake. It is bliss.
We are lucky to have a beautiful centre like this one so close by, we are able to visit often, and never get bored, there is always something new to see and always a different cake to sample.
