I have always been partial to a glass of wine. I like white wine; I like red wine and I love a cold rosé on a sunny afternoon.
Here at Glenvale Park, we have our own wine bar, it is on the top floor and has wonderful views of the surrounding area. The décor is swish and modern, and it really is a wonderful spot to relax and socialise.
This week the Sky Bar was the setting for a cheese and wine evening, one of my favourite activities. We were offered a selection of wines from all over the world, from France, Greece, Spain, Italy, South Africa, and California, as well as a selection of beers and ciders. They were all wonderful, it was difficult to choose a favourite, but we had a lot of fun trying.
Alongside the wine we were offered a tray of delicious cheese samples. Cheese and wine are a match made in heaven; they complement each other so well.
We were not disappointed. There was a wonderful selection of cheeses; traditional British cheeses such as Stilton and Cheddar, there was Camembert and Brie from France and some tasty Swiss Emmental. The tray was laden with grapes and chutney, apples and nuts and of course an assortment of biscuits both sweet and savoury.
The wines served were expertly selected to pair with the cheese; it was quite a revelation for many of us how certain wines enhance the flavours of the cheeses so perfectly.
The evening was the perfect combination of quality food, great company and stimulating conversation. It was wonderful.
