Championing Social Care are a volunteer-led group of leaders from across the social care sector. Their vision is to ensure a wider and deeper public understanding, appreciation, and respect for social care. They do not seek to represent the care sector or care workers. Rather, they are focused on delivering positive stories and initiatives about the sector about which we at Halcyon Care Homes care so passionately.
June 27th to July 3rd was Championing Social Care’s annual open week, a week during which care homes up and down the country are invited to open their doors to anyone who is interested in finding out a little bit more about social care.
At Kingfisher Court we hosted an event championing the cultural diversity that makes our home so special. Everyone got involved, from the residents to the team, everyone made their own unique contribution from traditional costumes to authentic recipes, we decorated Kingfisher Court with a variety of national flags, and we were thoroughly entertained by Rebecca who sang her heart out and had us all dancing. She was brilliant.
The day was a great success, we recognise the importance of community involvement for our residents and we were delighted to welcome visitors from the local area into our home and we were very proud to show it off.
It’s been a tough couple of years, we have had to close our doors on more than one occasion, and this made hosting an open day even more special.
We all had a fabulous day and are already planning further community events; we’ll keep you posted.
