Birthdays are special and we make sure that we celebrate every single one of them. At Canterbury house we don’t distinguish between birthdays and big birthdays, a birthday is a birthday and a real cause for celebration.
This week John turned 21 again and we pulled out all of the stops to make sure that he was made to feel special. The door to his room was strewn with banners and balloons and team members arrived almost constantly to wish him many happy returns.
There was much singing and laughter helping John to get ready for his birthday lunch and we all waited eagerly to hear about it on his return.
Later in the afternoon a group of team members made their way to John’s room, wearing their party hats and carrying a cake made by our chef, they sang happy birthday and John blew out the candles.
John arrived for tea with his fellow residents and the whole dining room sang to him. It was so wonderful to see.
You are never too old for a birthday cake or a birthday balloon or to make a wish as you blow out the candles.
We celebrate so many events here, Bonfire Night, Easter and a whole host of national days but none are as special as a birthday.
