The building work has been completed, the fixtures and fittings are being installed and the paintwork is drying. It is exciting to watch the finishing touches being added to Priors Hall, to see the rooms coming together and picturing our new residents enjoying each other’s company, watching a movie together in the cinema or having a drink or two in the Sky Bar.
I have spent a lot of time in care homes, not in a professional capacity but personally, visiting family members and I always felt that it would be such a rewarding place in which to work. There is so much opportunity to make a difference and to help the residents enjoy their lives, to give a little back to the generation that sacrificed so much for us.
Over the last few years, I have been working in a customer service role, I enjoyed the interaction with the public, the fact that no two days were the same and the satisfaction of helping others. My role evolved to include marketing and looking at ways to both improve services and promote them. It was a role I enjoyed.
Recently I felt that I needed a new challenge and to my delight I found the position of front of house manager at Priors Hall Care Home advertised, a role that would allow me to utilise my customer service skills whilst working in a care home environment. It was the perfect role.
I was delighted when Preet, the home manager called to offer me the position. I will be here full-time supporting Preet, running the reception desk, processing office administration and spending time with the residents.
Most of my spare time is taken up with my young son, however, I do attend a local dance class and I’m hoping I’ll get the chance to teach the residents to throw a few shapes!
I cannot wait for us to begin welcoming our residents in December, to meet all their families and to start to help them settle into what we are confident will be an incredibly happy life at Priors Hall.
