It is so important that we look after our health, yet so many of us don’t. We think about it, sometimes it keeps us awake at night and we make a promise to ourselves that tomorrow will be different, tomorrow we’ll have that smoothie, eat those vegetables but tomorrow fades away in a haze of strong coffees and TV dinners. It isn’t easy, the world has changed and homecooked meals have been replaced by convenience foods and snacks to go. Life is fast-paced, and something has to give.
As we age our health is at the forefront of our minds and we have little choice but to take our food choices more seriously. It is a common misconception that care home residents live on a diet of rice pudding, cake, and biscuits, however whilst we are partial to a biscuit with our tea or a milk pudding after our Sunday dinner, for the most part we enjoy healthy home cooked meals, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, it’s a lot easier to eat healthily when someone else is doing the cooking.
One of our favourite treats is the mobile smoothie bar. The smoothies are blended from an assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables and then wheeled from the kitchen straight to us. You can’t get fresher. They taste delicious and leave us feeling virtuous and content in the knowledge that we are treating our bodies with the care they deserve.
There are many reasons that I love living here, the care we receive, the fun activities, the beautiful surroundings and the tasty food, the fact that such care goes into creating a menu that is so healthy and nutritious whilst still being delicious is just the cherry on the smoothie.
