As the sun was shining this week, team members at Kingfisher Court decided it would be nice to take residents Mavis and Audrey for a walk down the local park and have some lunch.
Mavis and Audrey were all set with their sunhats and sun cream, oh and not forgetting their picnic. Initially they were very reluctant to go as the weather was about to change and they didn’t want to get caught in the rain, but they took the chance and ventured out.
It was expected to see the beautiful swans and their cygnets, but they hadn’t expected to be sharing their lunch with them! The sun was out in all her glory, so it was decided to take shade under the willow trees.
Mavis and Audrey spent some time reminiscing about days gone by and watching all the little children on their way home from school, running into the park for a quick ride on the swings. They remembered doing the same thing themselves, with their children.
Getting out and about again and getting some normality back into our lives, having the pleasure of meeting others who stopped to have a chat as they walked past, was the best thing done in a while. All the way back home Mavis and Audrey chatted about the joy of getting out and about and are looking forward to doing it again, we may even venture further afield next time!
Going out for walks around the park doesn’t just give our residents a chance to be out in the sun, there are a whole host of benefits including improving mental health, reducing fatigue and depression, encouraging conversations and expressing opinions and feelings.
Kingfisher Court, where most residents and staff have already received their 2nd does of the Covid19 vaccination, are welcoming new residents.
