One of the nicest parts of my job at Kingfisher Court is being able to sit and chat with our residents. Some of their stories would make your hair curl. We laugh a lot and I learn a lot. Gwyneth and I have recently been reminiscing and about her childhood and all of the places she has spent time growing up. It never ceases to make her smile as she recounts her adventures in Redruth. I took the time to laminate some photos of the area for her, she looks at them often.
Gwyneth and her husband Roger were social butterflies and I laugh as she recounts stories of the Countryman Arms, the pub where they spent many a happy hour with their friends Margaret and Bill. Gwyneth just loves to look through photographs of the pub, you can tell by the smile on her face that she has many happy memories of those days. As so often happens with friendships Gwyneth and Margaret lost touch, life often gets in the way and weeks become months and months become years. I could see the sadness in Gwyneth’s eyes when she pondered where Margaret is now and what her life may have been like. Keen to help, I decided to don my detective hat to see if I could find out for her and by doing a little social media research I hit the jackpot, I’m delighted to say that I found Margaret.
Margaret had spent many years wondering about Gwyneth too, she’d never forgotten the good old days and the fun moments they’d shared. I can honestly say, I felt like I was staring in an episode of Surprise Surprise when I rushed to tell Gwyneth the news. Gwyneth cried, I cried, it was such a special moment. I shall never forget it for as long as I live.
Gwyneth and Margaret are like teenagers again, spending hours on Facetime, making up for the lost years. I hear them giggling like schoolgirls as I pass Gwyneth’s room. Margaret has family who live close to Kingfisher Court so will coming to visit Gwyneth in person very soon but until then they will continue to keep in touch by phone and Facetime. Gwyneth is overjoyed at the prospect of seeing Margaret again, she said she feels like she has her best friend back.
