To celebrate St Patricks, Hazel End Care Home planned a full day dedicated to celebrating the Irish. The upstairs pub was converted into an Irish bar, with decorations, costumes, mini-Guinness, music, and food tasters, to transport our residents to the wonderful country of Ireland. Resident were invited to take part in games including ‘Shake your Shamrock’ ‘Pot of Gold Treasure Trail Hunt’ and themed bingo.
Team members took part in a river dancing competition where residents were the judges and picked their favourite contestants and the wonderful kitchen team cooked a Guinness Cake.
Hazel End was unrecognisable as the team and residents celebrated the day in true Irish tradition, the home was transformed into a green wonderland with Irish Leprechaun’s, shamrocks, and pints.
One resident said, “I couldn’t have had a better time anywhere with anyone else, it’s been beautiful”.
Another said, “It couldn’t be better, they did such a good job.”
George Lifestyle Lead commented “St Patricks Day was the perfect opportunity to have some fun, be silly and make everyone smile, I love any opportunity to dress up. The donations from family members made it such a memorable day, with current restrictions meaning relatives cannot all come into the home. It was so touching knowing that there was that input and involvement from a resident’s daughter to make this a day to remember and mark a special day, bringing people together. It certainly was so rewarding seeing residents enjoy themselves, they really do deserve it.”
A daughter of a resident commented “I would like to thank the team at Hazel End for making St Patricks day a joyous occasion for my mum and the rest of the residents. They have done amazing things during the pandemic and I can’t thank them enough for all they do”.
