Championing Social Care are a volunteer-led group of leaders from across the social care sector. Their vision is to ensure a wider and deeper public understanding, appreciation, and respect for social care. They do not seek to represent the care sector or care workers. Rather, they are focused on delivering positive stories and initiatives about the sector about which we at Halcyon Care Homes care so passionately.
June 27th to July 3rd was Championing Social Care’s annual open week, a week during which care homes up and down the country are invited to open their doors to anyone who is interested in finding out a little bit more about social care.
We have been planning a summer fayre for a while. It is extremely important to us that our residents remain part of the local community, that they continue to make their contribution to society and do not lose connections that have been forged over a lifetime of living in and around Kettering.
Care Home Open Week provided us with the opportunity to combine, what we hope will become an annual event with the chance to show off our home to the locals.
The summer fayre was wonderful, the residents here at Westhill Park worked with us to organise and prepare for the event and we all enjoyed every minute of it. It was a real traditional fayre complete with hook-a-duck, a tombola and raffle to name but a few of the stalls on offer.
We were delighted to welcome families, friends, and members of the local community along to enjoy the fun. A lot of hard work went into organising such a big event, but it was worth the time and effort involved. We had a great day and are already buzzing with ideas to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
