World Family Day was first celebrated in the year 1994. Although the foundation of this day was laid 5 years earlier in 1989. The United Nations General Assembly, in its resolution 44/82 dated December 9, 1989, declared the International Day of Families to be celebrated every year with the aim of spreading awareness to the people of the world, about the importance of family.
World Family Day is held on May 15th, to celebrate the role of the family in everyday life. The family is a phenomenal institution that enables us to build strong communities and countries. Family relationships contribute to the development of the individual as well as to the development of society.
Everyone begins life as a part of a family, sadly circumstances can cause breakdowns in these relationships and ties. Family relationships are not just about blood relations. Family bonds can form within communities; at Westhill Park, we have become a family, we live together, we eat together, and we support each other, and we are extremely fortunate to have built such wonderful connections.
We are all guilty of taking family for granted; the pandemic was a wake up call for us all. We learned to be extremely grateful for the special people in our lives.
Sunday was World Family Day, and it was wonderful, the weather was beautiful, and we were joined by the people we love the most. We introduced our families to our friends and our friends to our families, and spent the afternoon, eating, drinking, singing, and laughing.
Now that restrictions have been lifted, we will be hosting many more family events throughout the summer, this is going to be a good year.
